Liar, liar, pants on fire.
According to our About page, “white shoes will always be heinous.” Unfortunately, it looks like the Spring/ Summer ’17 trends have made liars of both Beth and me. For the first time in my fashion-conscious lifetime, other than Easter Sunday when I was 6, white shoes are not only socially acceptable, but are being promoted by the gurus of the industry. Seen in the SS ’17 runway shows of Stella McCartney, Rag and Bone, Celine, and Christian Dior, white shoes are the hot shoe of the summer. Set aside your basic white sneaks, and step out in pool slides, mules, and flatforms in the color of the season.
As much as we love the change of pace, and breaking fashion rules, white shoes are a liability in New York City. They won’t survive the 1.5 mile commute to work, or the sticky floors of my favorite basement bars. I’ll stick to my black leather and sneakers for those occasions, and maybe bring the white shoes out once I get to work at the KF clean showroom. If you are daring enough to try this trend, make sure you let the shoe be the enamel white star in your style. Do not pair it with other white accessories like belts or bags at the same time!
