Taking Instagram feeds by storm, the Monstera deliciosa plant, or Swiss cheese plant as it’s otherwise known, is a minimalist’s dream come true. Beth had been raving about these leaves for quite some time, wanting to display them down the shore in our all-white marble and stainless steel kitchen, and finally I was able to deliver!
Luckily, my scooter commute goes directly through the NYC floral district on 28th street, so I have access to a large variety of plants. After hunting them down, I was able to buy two leaves for $5 each (which I thought was a steal), considering we’ve had them for almost a month and they still look healthy.
If you want to display your leaves in a traditional way, place one or two leaves in a clear cylinder vase with a small neck, so that you can enjoy the length of the stems and they don’t flop over.
We also used the live plant as a placemat to bring the outdoors in. The natural green color makes a great contrast to our sharp white dinnerware, and is the perfect size for a standard dinner plate. Check out how Beth used the monstera leaves to decorate our shore house below!
