I remember being in high school and hating any item of clothing that was not skin tight. (Of course, this was my Abercrombie & Fitch and Ugg boot phase.) I would argue with my mom in stores when she would recommend a top with a voluminous sleeve, or a skirt with pleats and movement. Cut me some slack, high school is tough enough without wearing clothing that automatically sets you apart from your peers like a sore thumb.
It wasn’t until college that I felt much more comfortable dressing for myself rather than those around me. I was thrilled to indulge in the season’s trends, no matter how risky, and start to stand out based on my fashion sense.
One of the season’s trends that I would have never tried 10 years ago, is voluminous sleeves, as pictured in this outfit. I paired this Anthropologie top (on sale now) with jean shorts and tie- up sandals, and I’m comfortable enough to run errands, without sacrificing style. Although sometimes I feel as though I’m wearing a toddler’s water wings, I’m loving this summer trend.
What is one trend you used to hate, but love now?
